It definitely was. I like how it showed that - no matter the love triangle and whatnot - it'll always be Merlin and Arthur standing by each other at the end of the day. :) Oh yes, just calling it a friendship doesn't seem to fit - definitely much more than just friends. :)

I admit to liking Martha best - I'm definitely not happy with the unrequited love storyline they put on her, but her other qualities endeared her to me. And her complicated relationship with the Doctor got me to write Doctor Who fic. I do have a soft spot for Rose in season 1 - I loved her with Nine. The first I saw of Doctor Who was season 2 with Ten and Rose... and I loved the two of them together too. :)
I really liked Donna as well - and yes, I completely agree with you about how refreshing it was to have a companion who didn't fancy the Doctor.
I suppose, in the end, each of the companions were great in their own different ways, so it's hard to choose a favorite...

Ten/Rose was actually lovely! i never usually ship canon, so it was quite nice to feel part of something there!

Yeah, the show definitely can't kill off Merlin. That would be horrible! :( I have read a few fics where Arthur doesn't take the magic reveal all that well. I can see it happening, I suppose, but I think that eventually, Arthur would come around...

Yeah, I know it's not a popular opinion...though most of the people on my FList are Martha fans - I really started using my LJ when I wrote Doctor Who fic, and what inspired me the most was the push-pull relationship between Ten and Martha in Series 3.
I think what I liked the most about Martha is that she left on her own terms at the end of S3... the Doctor didn't make the decision for her (like with Rose and Donna). It almost made up for that unfair unrequited love story that they saddled Martha with.
But to each their own - I'm looking forward to seeing the new Doctor... the Rose vs. Martha thing is frustrating and I'm just hoping to enjoy Doctor Who as it is after Ten regenerates...

Yeah, I agree with you on that. :) No one's perfect... and everyone always has their personal opinions that inevitably conflict.
;D ah well of course! but it'd be nice if... if the ratings went caput, and the beeb just went 'WE CAN DO WHATEVER WE WANT TO END THE SHOW!' and just killed everybody off! sometimes, that's the best way to end the show (: but i'm sort of getting vaguely annoyed that NO ONE knows about Merlin's magic! i thought that the Morgana episode might've gotten her involved with it, but NO, Merlin manages to hide it yet again (with his amazing delivery of FLOWERS!)
well, i began to like Martha, and then i think it was after the series had finished i just... developed this anger with her! it was so bizarre! not saying i hate her, i really respect Freema and her acting, and i'm growing used to Martha again. ah yes, i think her just leaving, and deciding that she was going to leave was brilliant (: much better than Rose getting plopped in that alternate universe and Donna... ooooh don't even get me started on Donna ;D
OMG, i've been trying to find someone that's looking forward to Matt Smith! i'm really looking forward to him, and i'm a serious DT fan, which people find really weird!
exactly! and i guess it's more down to what sort of character you like, and how YOU think the character should be portrayed (: and of course, how attractive the actor IS ;D
