Merlin: S2|E2: "The Once and Future Queen"
Oh, how convenient...there's an assassin (Myror) out to kill Prince Arthur at the same time that Arthur decides to take a hike and go undercover. Arthur has good timing, looks like. Subtle, show, subtle...:P
Arthur/Gwen
Wow, they're really trying to push Arthur/Gwen, aren't they? I thought it was a little much and I was tempted to roll my eyes at some points, but I think they're selling me on that pairing. I don't know - I just love their awkwardness and how they're trying to work each other out. By the time they kissed (omg, it wasn't a dream - it was the light through the window. :P), I was pretty much cheering for the two of them.
They're just so endearing and the awkwardness is interesting to watch because how can it be anything but awkward? I think they're doing a good job showing their relationship and making their awkwardness rather cute... It won't be easy for them, and I completely understood Gwen's frustration with him, but I think they're getting somewhere. I'm glad at least that Arthur decided to take Gwen's words to heart and not reveal his identity to collect his trophy...showing that he could show some humility and let someone else take the credit.
Or, maybe it's that music in the background during the Arthur/Gwen scenes that are influencing me... but honestly, I'm just grateful that the het works for me... that I don't feel like cringing during their scenes. It's definitely growing on me. I don't know how anyone can not be moved by the whole thing...
Arthur/Merlin
Anywho, I loved the little moments between Arthur and Merlin. Yes, it was obvious that Arthur/Gwen was the focus of this episode, but no matter - the Arthur/Merlin banter was back in action. I loved every minute of it. And, and! Merlin let Arthur borrow his own shirt. How sweet of him... :p Point for slashy subtext? Done!
"It's mine. I washed it especially." (Merlin took the time to wash it too...*can't stop laughing*)
Also, this exchange:
Arthur: Merlin, thank god.
Merlin (makes a "what the hell?" face): Gwen says you're cooking.
Arthur: I need you to fetch me two dinners from the palace kitchens.
Merlin: So...you're not cooking?
Those two...*shakes head*
And looks like Merlin is getting a hint of Arthur's affection for Gwen with the whole, "So you're trying to impress her?"
Arthur will not hear the end of this from Merlin...given the spoilers for future episodes (the Lancelot episode, maybe?), then Merlin looks like he'll be egging Arthur on (why can't you just admit your feelings for Gwen?).
Het or slash? I'm liking both right now...though, truthfully, I still really like the idea of Lancelot/Gwen because they had UST like there's no tomorrow in S1's Lancelot episode. And it's a relationship that would just work better in medieval times...they're both commoners and everything. Now, I'm looking forward to seeing how the prince with a servant conflict is handled; but right now, Lancelot will be a big threat for Arthur. As he doesn't have that obstacle that Arthur has...well, until Arthur becomes King and things changing accordingly...
And well, I don't mind the pushing of Arthur/Gwen if there will be some Merlin/Morgana to make up for it. I don't think they'll push a relationship between Merlin and Morgana, but from the teasers for future episodes...I'm excited about the promise of interaction between the two (possibly discussing magic? Hopefully Morgana finds out about Merlin...but that might be asking too much). In the teasers, Morgana's eyes went gold just like Merlin's! And she did magic - not just dreams! Seriously, they have to have Morgana find out about what Merlin can do...by the end of this season, at least! It wouldn't be fair otherwise. Hmmm...and then the Dragon says it wouldn't be wise for the witch (Morgana, I'm assuming) to know the true extent of her powers. That doesn't sound good at all...
