This is so friggin' ~awesome~. As I said before, wonderful daemon choices--white wolf, heee!--and I love the names and their meanings, very fitting. Also, I got such a great mental image at Gwen's Scottish Terrier daemon--Troy! :)

I love Krola's annoyed glares at Merlin, lol. Thank god Zlota can fly away so at least part of Merlin can be spared Arthur's prat-ness. I love the part where Zlota carries Krola through the window: apart from it being a cool nod to the phoenix' magical abilities, it is also a daemon touching another daemon, and speaks of Arthur and Merlin's closeness.
How much do I love that Excaliber = the Subtle Knife OMG. Seriously. That is perfect. Of course it can cut through to other worlds. And the way you described the opening of the window was very reminiscent of the books, it brought back fond memories.
A nitpick: Zlota immediately changed into a firefly and flew to Merlin, hiding underneath his shirt. Since daemons settle their form at puberty, (like, even 14 is pushing it), Arthur and Merlin's daemons should have stopped changing several years ago. It kind of sucks, because the daemons changing shape was one of the coolest things about the books. However, it's also one of the most steadfast Daemon Rules, as it were, so you'd have to make a pretty credible magical reason for Zlota still to be changing. Maybe you can put it in that prequel where we learn how Zlota came to separate from Merlin...*hint hint*
I have to say, even though adding daemons makes any story more awesome to me, I really love Arthur and Merlin on their own in this. You've made such a team of them. You get the sense of how close they've grown in their exile. And actually, they're a little bit scary in their power, particularly Merlin.
I can't wait to hear more about Uther's terrible plans to control magical daemons. And to see how without-daemons!Arthur and Merlin deal with the fact that there is apparently a wolf and a phoenix somewhere inside them. In conclusion, <3 <3 <3
