Merlin: S2|E12: "The Fires of Idirsholas"

*my heart breaks*

You could see how much it HURT (so much!) Merlin to be put in that position to poison Morgana and kill her. You could see the conflict he was going through -- it's a weighty betrayal. Even if Morgana comes to understand WHY Merlin did it, the fact is he DID go through with the deed and she would have been killed if Morgause hadn't demanded a way to save her.

And, of course, it hurt even more after Morgana called him a "good friend" (though it obviously was a device to cause Merlin to feel even more guilt-ridden of what he had to do :(). And also how Merlin covered for Morgana when Arthur was questioning her...even AFTER Merlin knew that he had to poison her, he still tried to keep Arthur from ganging up on her. It's clear that Merlin very much still cared for her despite her questionable actions as of late...

Sooo sad though...no chance of Merlin/Morgana now...even a friendship is very unlikely now. :( There leaves little doubt that in this version of Arthurian legend, Merlin and Morgana will be enemies. No matter how frustrating that is to hear, we knew it was bound to happen eventually...Morgana is usually evil after all. Though I was hoping it wouldn't be now - it's too early! Especially since Morgana wasn't really honest-to-goodness evil yet. She did some questionable things, but that was mostly because she felt alone and those she could turn to - who were nice to her and let her be herself because they had magic as well (Alvarr, Morgause, Mordred) - were unfortunately also against Camelot.

And now the stage has been set - Morgause took Morgana away and who knows what'll happen when Morgana returns. I'm sure it'll be much easier now for Morgause to *really* turn Morgana against Camelot. After all, Morgana has a big issue with Uther, but now after this episode, Morgana finds out that Merlin, the one she confided her magic secret to which is a big show of trust, was willing to kill her... that's not something you can forgive and forget easily.

It wasn't obvious because it's something we're used to...but I thought there was a focus on how Arthur and Merlin were working together, side by side...while Morgana was off to the side sometimes... I mean, it wasn't in all the scenes - there were times that Merlin & Morgana worked together to move Uther's body and all that, but still - there were a number of scenes where Arthur and Merlin are conversing - their usual banter back and forth - and Morgana is not involved in that.

To me, it felt like foreshadowing. That Arthur and Merlin would be united - building Camelot to greatness while Morgana would be against them, against Camelot.

It was rather sad to see - my hope for OT4 love is broken. Oh, why can't Merlin, Arthur, Gwen and Morgana all live happily ever after in Camelot? *is sad* Missed opportunity for awesomeness, show! :\

MERLIN RELEASED THE DRAGON. MERLIN RELEASED THE DRAGON. MERLIN RELEASED-- ah, you get my point.

Merlin will be practicing his "OH, SHIT" face in the next episode. Yes, he will. Of course, the Dragon would be like, "Oh no you don't! No more bargaining, Merlin! I'M OUT OF HERE, Y'ALL! RAWWWR!" when Merlin asked the Dragon if he promised not to harm Camelot. Yeah right, Merlin - you really think after all those miserable years stuck there that the Dragon would leave Camelot alone? Anything to strike at Uther, the Dragon will strike against -- and that includes Camelot since Uther rules it and all.

Although, I'm sure the Dragon wouldn't want Arthur dead at least -- he does keep talking about Merlin's destiny with Arthur... and even in this episode, the Dragon reminded Merlin that Arthur would die if Merlin didn't stop the knights. See, the Dragon cares...but still, little consolation if the Dragon wouldn't want to kill Arthur - there are still plenty of people in Camelot to take out. (Apparently one of them is Gwen going by the preview...is that the Dragon being anti-Arthur/Gwen again? Ah, silly Dragon - be still his slash-ridden heart. LOL)

VICIOUS CYCLE: Seriously, SERIOUSLY??? The show expects us to believe that Arthur didn't hear Merlin say a spell when ARTHUR WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. HE. WAS. RIGHT. THERE. Is Arthur deaf or something? I mean, those rocks didn't fall of their own accord -- Arthur had to have wondered what caused that. VICIOUS CYCLE, I tell you.

That moment definitely gave me pause - it does bug when Merlin does magic so carelessly like that...

Camelot: Where the magic is so obvious, that why in the world it's still being "kept secret" is beyond comprehension.

One final note: Arthur went out to fight the knights - his life was on the line - which gave Merlin another very good reason to put a stop to the knights and the sickness. It was all together perfect timing. How could we not feel sympathetic toward Merlin when we know that Arthur could die if Merlin doesn't poison Morgana to put an end to the spell?

Surely, it can not be denied that Merlin truly cares about Arthur...by now, it can't just be solely driven by him knowing about the destiny that he has with Arthur. So, I can't help but not sympathize with Merlin - time was really running out at that point. Arthur had almost fallen asleep just before he went out to fight the knights - what if he'd really fallen asleep out there and gotten killed? Merlin didn't have much of a choice.

Next Episode:

This comment by [livejournal.com profile] anaakin about the Dragon made me LOL:
His plan is to eradicate all of the women in Camelot so that only the slash remains. http://community.livejournal.com/merlin_tv/766474.html?thread=3487498#t3487498

Of course, this is simply the only explanation. ;) The Dragon goes after Gwen, after all...

Also, Dragonlord! Sounds interesting...um, sorry - distracted by Merlin and Arthur going on an expedition yet again - because it's just their thing, you know. But they meet the Dragonlord and all, I'm assuming.

If the Dragonlord is really Merlin's father...I don't know what I'd do.

"Hello, my father can slay dragons, what can your father do?"

PWNED. :P
