♥ Hiatus ♥

I'll be going on vacation to Hawaii (for the first time) from July 12th until July 26th (all islands, though I heard Maui (the magic isle :D) is the best island to go to).

I'll see you all in two weeks! (And hopefully not working on my [livejournal.com profile] whizzbangpop fic for two weeks won't be a bad thing...the notes should help me get back into it when I return :))

Have fun! Maui is lovely esp. around Lahaina. I also liked going up on top of Haliakala the Nat. Park but it's cold up there! The road to Hana is exciting if a little dangerous but so gorgeous!

The Big Island has the volcano and black sand beaches. Good snorkling at Kona, too.

Good snorkling on Oahu. There's a park, Hanauma bay where you can wade among the fish. Go in the morning when it's clear. By afternoon, the water gets murky. The Bishop museum is nice and the botanical garden, too.

We did go to Lahaina in Maui -- it was nice there. We went to Lahaina for lunch, had it at Bubba Gump's, where we had a lovely view of the ocean. :) I know about the Road to Hana -- my sister did that when she went to Maui, but I didn't do that. I have heard great things about it though even if it's a bit of a dangerous drive.

We went to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island...that was quite an experience. I never saw a crater/caldera in person before. And we stopped at a black sand beach too. That was amazing. Seeing a black sand beach was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip. :)

We went to a snorkling beach in Kona with a few other people...I didn't snorkle, just hung out there. Those who did snorkle said that they did see something, but it was probably better if they had gone early in the day...

We did a tour of Honolulu in Oahu (after we went to Pearl Harbor)...we did go to a park there, but it was raining at the time so we couldn't stay long. We didn't go to those other places - Hanauma Bay sounds cool though. :) We did go to the Polynesian Cultural Center, which was informative in terms of learning about Polynesian culture.

Yeah, the volcano over on the Big Island was great. The lava wasn't flowing the week we were there (the week before and after yes, but not on our week. :( ) Well, if you didn't see everything, there's always that excuse to go back!

We only saw steam... they did say at the volcano park that you could best see the lava flow at night (at least the glow from the lava). I don't recall them saying anything about the lava flowing recently though. Oh well, it was still an interesting experience all the same. :)

Yeah, I knew I wouldn't get to see everything the first time -- there is *a lot* to see in the Hawaiian islands after all. I heard people talking about how amazing Diamond Head was (on Oahu, I believe). That would be nice to see. :)
