Supernatural 5.04: The End
They're really trying to get across that Dean, no matter what, will not say "the big yes" to Michael. Even despite seeing what was in store five years into his future, Dean said no to Zachariah in the end. Though there was a moment of uncertainty...
That must have been difficult for Dean after seeing what future!Dean was like...what he had to resort to by saying no to Michael. And future!Dean even pleaded with him to say yes to Michael...so that this apocalyptic future where future!Dean made decisions like using people in his group (even Cas!) as decoys when he went to take out Lucifer!Sam. And unfortunately, even future!Dean wasn't able to defeat Lucifer!Sam before Lucifer killed him. :-(
I'm not that surprised that Sam did choose Lucifer in the future - he has made some pretty poor decisions in the past. I mean, being so vengeful that he (unintentionally, but still!) started the apocalypse. And if Dean cut ties with him, then Sam could very well go to that extreme...
I'm glad that Dean decided to get in contact with Sam at the end of the episode (after telling him they should stay apart before the sudden "back to the future" trip). It showed that Dean did learn something from visiting the future - and it wasn't the angels' agenda, but all on his own terms. Dean realized the importance of sticking with family, and so he sought Sam out and slowly but surely, they'll work things out as they go. I do like how Sam told Dean straight off in the beginning of the episode about being Lucifer's true vessel.
I enjoyed the interaction between Dean and future!Dean - some of it amused me because c'mon, it is pretty weird to talk to your future yourself...it makes your head spin. Ha! At future!Dean leaving Dean cuffed like that - "You don't trust yourself??" Future!Dean: "No." LOL. And Dean's snarky, "I just want to get back to my own year!" *grumble grumble* :P
Oh, and future!Cas is mostly mortal! I didn't know whether to feel sorry for him or not - he did seem pretty okay. Or maybe he just got used to the situation...being a stoned hippie type of a person. I suppose he just decided to go with the flow. He did have his own little group of women there...not too bad.
And Chuck! With his advice to horde all the toilet paper because it's like gold (in 2014)! LOL.
I loved 2009!Castiel rescuing Dean from Zachariah at the end there. Oh, Cas - "We had an appointment." *hugs him* And how Dean's like to Cas: "Don't ever change"... hmmm...I guess Dean wasn't too approving of Cas's turn in the future...or maybe I shouldn't read too much into it. I'm sure it weirded Dean just a bit to see Cas so different than his usual, stoic angelic self.
♥ Next Episode: Sam and Dean back to working together on an interesting case. Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, James Dean, Paris Hilton, etc...getting taken down by super fans? A side of cracky! please. Should be a nice break from the intensity of the last few episodes...

I think the big thing is Sam was alone and couldn't deal. Like you said he made bad choices. I wonder if he went back to the demon blood or if Lucifer just were him down. Sam needs family (Dean or Bobby) to keep him human.

I love both those things. I'm so pleased Dean learned the that lesson from his time travel. If indeed it was real. You can't trust Zach as angels have power to make a person's mind think something that isn't real as we've seen in season four. Course I do think it was real but Dean can't trust that. I'm so glad Sam told Dean.

I think he was self destructing with the drugs and sex. I feel so bad for him he talked about belonging to a better club.

Cracky is the right word for it:D Should be fun:D
I wrote a review if you interested but I didn't say much you haven't already:D

Oh, yes, I agree. I think that Lucifer did probably wear him out in the end... with Sam alone, he was more vulnerable to being persuaded by the devil.
I'm so pleased Dean learned the that lesson from his time travel.
Me too! He got something out of it - and it was on his own terms, not what the angels wanted him to learn from seeing the future. That was nice to see - Dean choosing his way, what *he* thought was best, not letting others dictate what he should do.

Yes, you're right. I thought that the show tried to make light of it - hoping viewers didn't look into it too closely, but yeah, what happened to Cas was pretty sad and dark.

Mine too! It was so sudden yet very much appreciated. Always trust Castiel to help in the nick of time. :-)

All right. I'll check it out. :-) Always nice to see what others think about the episode.

I'm really dying to see how Lucifer did it. Because I want to see him try the same thing now. With the boys back together now, I want to see him try it and get turned down by Sam.

I'm love that Dean is very sure of himself. He doesn't think highly of himself but he isn't driven by doubt. A person who is would have said yes to Zach.

I just watched two fun not so angsty episode from season three and it really reminded me how much I miss that. We've due something fun and light to balance the angst. I get the feeling that tonight's episode is going to be exact cracky which could be exact fun:D
