S4.5: The Poison Sky
Coming a little late here, but I want to get my thoughts down before the next episode (which should be interesting, to say the least). I definitely loved the little Ten/Martha moments. I'm glad that he knew her well enough to recognize it was a clone just based on little details. It's now officially canon! :) Her wearing the Doctor's coat was terribly cute, and I definitely wasn't expecting it. Love her comment about feeling like a kid in her dad's old clothes...and Donna's snark afterwards. Donna and Martha definitely seem to be getting on well with each other, and I can't wait to see their continued interaction in the next episode.
The moment after the Doctor comes back (when Rattigan takes his place) was sweet - ha! at Donna whacking him - that is so her. And I definitely see Martha as being the calm one, just being there and being comforting. She's a doctor after all. The Doctor's acknowledgement of her ("Thanks for everything...oh so many times.") was overdue and could have been longer, but he did get her that position at U.N.I.T so that does count for something.
I can't believe Ross was killed! I still don't want to believe it (and it's been almost a week since I saw the ep). I'm with others who believe he dodged the bullet or was knocked unconscious. He shouldn't have died! How unfair. *sigh*
I *love* it that the TARDIS closed its doors on Martha - it's been proven - the TARDIS really missed her! After the three months in Farringham 1913 with only Martha visiting the TARDIS - I'm not surprised. They definitely developed a close bond.
And finally, the elusive missing scene when Donna comes back in. The body language between the Doctor and Martha is the only thing to really go on - but it does say a lot. I wished we knew what they had said to each other - the Doctor is just too quiet and his expression only reveals so much. Considering that Martha immediately places the blame on him for locking her in the TARDIS ("Doctor, don't you dare!"), I really think (kinda obvious) that he tried to persuade her to go on one trip with them "just like old times." And Martha said no, she has a life of her own now that she can't leave; and it effectively chastised the Doctor - leaving him not saying much when Donna came in. I've been thinking about writing a fic for the missing scene like others have done, but others have managed it better than I could have had. I do sorta appreciate that the show did leave the missing scene open to interpretation because all the more material for fics all the better. :-)
And the next episode this Saturday (The Doctor's Daughter) - I liked Buffy, but do we really need a clone of her? The preview left me a bit speechless and I've been trying to avoid any spoilers. At least Martha will be in the episode...even though she gets kidnapped. I'm hoping for not a lot of melodrama, but that may not happen. I'm positive it's not Rose's daughter because however much I like Rose, that's just taking it too far. Yes Rose was the first companion of the New Series, but it's time we moved on. I'm excited to see she's coming back and the mystery surrounding her appearances is pretty eerie...but we don't need to add more drama to the plate. I sincerely hope though that Martha and Rose hit it off. Considering Martha's situation and Rose having a chance to mature after the Doctor, I think they'll be okay with each other. Hopefully it'll be like with Donna & Martha - it's always nice to see companions not fighting with each other.
