SPN: 5x13 "The Song Remains The Same" aka BEST EPISODE EVER :D

OMG. OMG. OMG. I was looking forward to this episode already because it was a young!John and Mary episode (the sequel to S4's "In The Beginning" :)). My hopes for this episode weren't disappointed. *cheers*

I love that Sam came along too this time around...so he got a chance to see his parents when they were younger. I'm glad that he got some bonding time with young!John. Even though John didn't understand what Sam was talking about (when Sam said he had made peace with John's decisions) since well, young!John didn't know who exactly Sam was referring to...at least Sam was able to have that closure...sort of...

I love how young!John was so willing to help out with the hunting stuff after his initial WTF? shock over it. I love how adamant he was over doing so...even after Dean was like, "you need human blood to create the sigil"... and John's like, "All right then" and takes a knife to cut himself. Oh yeah, love how he didn't back down. Maybe it's a macho guy thing...;)

I loved how kickass Mary was when she was fighting Anna. Even though she left the hunting life, it was nice to see that she was still ready to fight when needed.

I admit I "awww-ed" when Mary was telling Sam and Dean that she couldn't leave John...that she was pregnant. That meant there was a little!Dean already inside her...of course she couldn't leave him with a baby on the way.

I wasn't expecting Michael to appear in this episode, and I'm glad I wasn't spoiled for that because it was a brilliant surprise. John as Michael's vessel!!! OMG. Apparently it's a family thing...through the bloodlines, that's why John was able to be Michael's temporary vessel (with Dean being Michael's true vessel). Although this isn't exactly news about the bloodlines...considering it was addressed in S4 with Castiel/Jimmy...and Castiel being able to take Claire as a vessel since she was Jimmy's daughter.

Yeah, so the Archangel Michael was a bit of a bastard...seems to be the M.O. for angels (except for Castiel...) on the show, but it was cool seeing him for the first time. Even bigger clincher was that he was wearing John's face, which certainly made things more interesting. I liked the confrontation between him and Dean. A lot of tension there...I liked hearing what Michael had to say about his relationship with Lucifer...as if we needed the point to be driven anymore that it's equivalent to how Sam and Dean are with each other.

So...it's nice that Michael saved Sam and then sent him home...kinda mean (but sort of necessary just to keep them sane I suppose) to scrub John and Mary's minds of ever seeing Sam and Dean. I think this was needed just to insure everything continued on track...that the future would continue as it should be. The Winchester Gospel, right? Can't change that...(no matter how much Sam and Dean wish they could have saved Mary and to have grown up with a mother...oh boys! :().

I got all warm and fuzzy (all right, it was a tad cheesy, but I think it solidified the line's importance...) when we saw young!Mary and John again with Mary visibly pregnant (little!Dean looked like he would be born real soon)... and the little conversation about the angel statue Mary bought to put in Dean's nursery. And she said the line, "Angels are watching over you" *melts into a puddle of cuteness and incoherency* Yeah, yeah...angels turn out not to be so great, but that line is important to the show imo...so it was nice to see its beginnings (even before Dean was born).

I missed some scenes in this episode, so I didn't get to see all of Castiel's scenes...(they were mostly toward the beginning, it looks like). Poor Cas being all messed up and injured after the time travel trip. *hugs him* Well, at least Dean was considerate enough to get him a bed in the honeymoon suite.

So...Anna wanted to kill John and Mary so that Sam would never be born? That's what I'm assuming...I think I missed the explanation bit, but I could understand Anna getting creative...being all like, "Well, it'll be sort of hard to kill Sam now...why not head back to the past to get his parents before he's born? That'll solve the problem!" ...Better luck (or not!) next time...oh wait, Michael fried her, didn't he? So Anna's dead...oh well.

Additional note: My heart went out to Sam when he was all teary-eyed and emotional at seeing his mother (properly this time). Poor Sam - not ever having had a chance at remembering her because he was too young before Mary died. He needed a hug...and the "you're so beautiful"...awww...

I'm definitely planning on downloading this episode once a download becomes available. This episode is definitely going on my rewatch list. :)

This was a fantastic episode, I agree. Oddly, I like Micheal. His approach was different, as in, it catered to Dean's personality. So far, this season has been quite the ride!

Yes, I'm glad I'm not alone in liking Michael... he did try to appeal to Dean in a clever way (except you can't help but think it's all simply a trick to get Dean to say yes).

I've been off and on this season with the show...but it's episodes like this one that remind me why I fell in love with this show in the first place. :) So cheers for that. :)

Oh, and Cas was so bamf at the beginning. If anything, you've got to rewatch for those first few minutes at the least.

I plan on doing that - I missed him. :( I'm glad that he's still a bamf. :) FTW.

Awww...hope you do get to see it! Via download or streaming sometime. It's worth a watch. :) The interactions were awesome and the return of young!Mary and John did not disappoint. :)

I'm glad Sam got to go back in time too. It's nice that he got to see his parents and have good talk with them. Maybe give him some closure that he never had before.

I liked Anna's plan of killing Sam by making sure he never lives in the first place. I think she went a little over kill, as she could have just killed John and allowed Mary to live with baby Dean. But I guess she wanted to make 100% sure there was no way for Sam to ever be. Anna was so stupid when she throw John and Mary around instead of just killing them. She killed Sam the first chance she got so why did she screw around and make it more painful for John and Mary? She could have broken John's neck from behind in that workshop. He never would have known what hit him. That's a much better way to go then to throw him around a bunch.

I loved Mary fighting too. She was badass! Years of not fighting and she's still that good.

Sam was stupid to suggest that Mary leave Sam. The smarter way that leaves more happiness would Mary gets her toobs tied after Dean is born. John can get snipped too and Mary, John and little Dean could live happily ever after.

I wasn't expecting Michael to appear in this episode either. I was shocked and pleased. I love that John was vessel for Micheal even if he wasn't his true vessel.

I really liked Micheal. Unlike his angel brothers who just want it all to end (Zach, Uriel) or thinks God is dead (Raphael ) can't take the fighting (Gabriel), Micheal truly believes in the plan. He's different then the other angels and no less wrong. (I think Cas/Dean/Sam/Bobby are right). Maybe it's that Micheal was in John's body. Maybe I just like him.

Micheal saved Sam because he believes so much in the plan, in destiny. He saved Sam so he could be Lucficer's vessel and he could fight and kill him. He didn't do it out of the goodness of his heart or for Dean. That makes Micheal all the more interesting. That his belief is that strong.

I need to get myself some Micheal in John icons!

Yes, I'm glad that the writers gave Sam the chance to do this. It was really needed. And I do think Sam got some much-needed closure from the experience.

Anna was so stupid when she throw John and Mary around instead of just killing them. She killed Sam the first chance she got so why did she screw around and make it more painful for John and Mary?

I completely agree. Anna shouldn't have beat around the bush like that and just killed them if she wanted to so much. Or maybe the writers didn't want the sticky situation of Anna killing John & Mary off so quickly. That would have taken some major fixing to rectify. So instead we got Anna making poor decisions...

I loved Mary fighting too. She was badass! Years of not fighting and she's still that good.

Oh yes! She was awesome - even after years of not hunting, her fighting skills were as awesome as ever.

Sam was stupid to suggest that Mary leave Sam. The smarter way that leaves more happiness would Mary gets her toobs tied after Dean is born. John can get snipped too and Mary, John and little Dean could live happily ever after.

Yes, exactly. That would have been a much better solution - to get a surgery done rather than having Mary make the painful decision to leave John. I'm sure she wouldn't have been able to do that even if she wasn't pregnant. That's a heartwrenching choice to make. :(

I wasn't expecting Michael to appear in this episode either. I was shocked and pleased. I love that John was vessel for Micheal even if he wasn't his true vessel.

It was definitely a welcomed surprise. And it was cool that John was his temporary vessel.

I'm interested in learning more about Michael. I think it was hard not to like him because he was in John's body during his first appearance. I'm sure it was intentionally done by the writers like that so the audience would be more sympathetic to Michael - since he was using Dean's father as a vessel...someone he was close to.

Micheal saved Sam because he believes so much in the plan, in destiny. He saved Sam so he could be Lucficer's vessel and he could fight and kill him. He didn't do it out of the goodness of his heart or for Dean. That makes Micheal all the more interesting. That his belief is that strong.

Yes, I agree. You'd think the logical thing would be to kill Lucifer's true vessel before Lucifer could take Sam over. But Michael really wants to go ahead with the plan and insure that Sam is alive for the plan to follow through.

I need to get myself some Micheal in John icons!

No better time for it. :) I just snagged a young!Mary and John icon from the episode. They are the mother OTP of the show...after all, Sam and Dean wouldn't have been born without them. :)

Someone made a picspam of the episode and there's one part of it (Part 3, you have to scroll down a bit) dedicated to Michael!John. It's not icons, but pretty pictures are always good. You can make icons out of them if you want to. I think I might (no wonder my icon space keeps filling up! ;)).
