Nothing Has Changed {odds & ends}

I have a substantial amount written for the second half of Chapter 7. Except that well, despite the amount I've written, I still have some way to go until I finish the chapter. But I'm getting there...I think writing the beginning bit helped a lot in figuring out how to set things up properly for the rest of the story (for Chapter 8 at least?). This story has a chance of getting a sequel mostly due to Merlin's time in the future. I'll go into it a bit, but I can't go into great detail or otherwise the final chapter will be rather long. And I want to cap this story at eight chapters, so yeah... I'm pretty much focusing on this story now because I want to finish it. After all, it's my first multi-chaptered "Merlin" fic, so when I complete this, I'll celebrate or something. My hope is to finish it by March 23 (my birthday :)), so maybe I *will* end up celebrating, actually. :P lol

Here are some bits from what I have so far:

But now, he did not try to dwell on these yearnings. This world had its Arthur too who needed guidance, who needed his help. For in the end, this young Arthur was the reason why Merlin stayed in this world unlike his own. He had waited for him to insure that this world would have its hero, its savior.

There was a troubling threat in this world, which this Arthur saw first hand when he was a boy, only seven years of age. He had lost his father then and he had not been raised as a prince. But that did not deter the tales of Arthur becoming a great and good king. Some things never changed and this was one such instance. Merlin did the best he could to guide the boy on to the right path where the future shined bright with the enemy defeated. As he schooled the boy, Merlin could not deny that he saw a bit of his Arthur in this one, too. Though this Arthur, he thought, was just that much kinder, and well, Merlin wasn’t so quick to call him an, ‘arrogant prat’ as he had called Prince Arthur when he had been his manservant.

“And why that particular year – 2008?”

The older Merlin shrugged once again. “That’s a very good question. In some cultures, you know, the number eight is considered a lucky number. That could be it.”

“So you can’t tell me anything, can you?”

“Oh, I’m not completely useless. While I do not have all the details, I can tell you that you will meet Arthur in the future.”

“What – does he become immortal, too?”

The older man shook his head. He laughed before he composed himself and explained, “There is such a thing as reincarnation. It involves a person being reborn into a new life. Essentially, it is the same person, but it may take years from when the person dies until -- if gifted with the ability to reincarnate -- they are reborn. So you will meet a reincarnation of Arthur – an Arthur who grew up in the future time you will be going to, and who will be…” And then the older Merlin peered at his fingers and appeared to be counting them off before he nodded to himself and he finished, “…nearing thirty in 2008.”

*Needs some editing work, of course, but yeah...there will be some explaining all around in the next chapter. Plus, if it all works out - Arthur will meet Arthur. :p

With all the doubles running around in this fic, I'm planning on "taking out" one of them so I don't get a headache as I write conversations with two Merlins, two Arthurs... and no, taking them out doesn't mean killing them. I promise. :)

Looks good so far. Hopefully you will reach your goal in time! But if not, there's always next birthday. :P

Thank you. :) I think after I finish writing this one scene, it'll be easier getting through the rest of it afterwards. With this being a crossover, it's taking more time than usual. But I think I finally have everything figured out. Although I'm taking a bit of an artistic license with the second Arthur because there's not much information about his childhood. So I'm falling back on a "Sword in the Stone"-esque childhood (with Merlin mentoring him). We'll see how that works out...

I appreciate the support. I'm looking forward to completing this fic. :)
